Kistinic Chateau & Parc

The Chateau de Kistinic is a small but perfectly formed 19th century chateau surrounded by 15 hectares of magnificent parkland. The large groomed lawns and glorious beds of camelias, rhododendrons and azaleas give wonderful ever changing views, and a maze of footpaths offer walks through woodland alleys, past ancient trees to holy wells. The chateau was renovated and decorated and the parc restored to glory with an addition of a 13 x 4,5 m infinity pool, glazed with green and gold shimmering Bizazza mosaic and surrounded by local granite won Piscine De France Gold award 2007.

A review from guests.
All I can say is, we have traveled to all corners of the world in the 42 years of our marriage but Kistinic is by far the most outstanding residence we have had the pleasure of residing in and that includes the Hotel Ritz in Paris and the Gritti in Rome…”

The parc was created at the same time as the chateau in the late 19th century, when it was carefully landscaped and planted with trees and shrubs. Kistinic means ‘horse chestnut’ in Breton and there are 8 hectares of woods of enormous oak, beech, sequoia and of course chestnuts. Various paths wind through the trees where you will discover ancient holy wells and ponds. The other 7 hectares are neatly mown and sweeping lawns with acid loving shrubs such as rhodendrons, azaleas and camelias which are spectacular in spring. Granite structures and slate sculptures can be found in various parts of the garden and there is an organic vegetable plot/greenhouse.

For the wildlife enthusiast, deer, rabbits, red squirrels, badgers, owls and foxes can be spotted almost on a daily basis.

Close to the chateau is the 13 x 4.5m infinity pool, designed to blend harmoniously with it’s surroundings and the chateau itself, it is edged in local granite and the interior is sparkling gold/green glass mosaic. The water is treated with bromine, so there is no smell or stinging eyes, and it is heated by an energy efficient heat pump. There is a shallow (0.8m) and a deep (1.6m) end, and granite steps run the width of the pool so getting in and out is easy for children. The pool space is a beautiful lawned area surrounded by flowers and large shrubs and is a very sheltered and sunny spot. It is gated for security.
